The History of Anything Goes Musical

Anything Goes is a musical with music and lyrics by Cole Porter. The book was a collaborative effort by Guy Bolton and P.G. Wodehouse, revised by Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse.

The musical, which first debuted on Broadway in 1934, takes place aboard the ocean liner S.S. American, where a nightclub and singer Reno Sweeney is traveling from New York to England. What unfolds is a love triangle between her pal Billy Crocker, his love Hope Harcourt, and her fiance Lord Evelyn Oakleigh.

Anything Goes on Broadway has had many revivals, in 1987 with Patti Lupone and 2011 with Sutton Foster. The musical has gone on to win several Tony Awards from the 1987 and 2011 awards for Best Revival of a Musical.
